Fifth Grade

Take a look at what your student will be learning this year:

• Literacy: Comprehensive literacy instruction, focusing on advanced comprehension, vocabulary, and written expression, with differentiated support.
• Math: Advanced work with fractions and decimals, exploration of 3D shapes, volume, and surface area, long division, and data analysis using landmark data.
• Science: Exploration of physical science (properties of materials, chemical reactions), earth science (water cycle, earth system interactions), space science (shadows, seasonal changes, sun-earth-star relationships), and life science (plant needs/processes, ecosystems, food webs) through investigations and data analysis.
• Social Studies: Focus on North American history before 1800, including pre-1500 societies, colonization, the American Revolution, and the creation of the US government, with emphasis on historical inquiry and analysis.
