| Highwood Hills Elementary School | | | | Highwood Hills is awesome! |
Highwood Hills is a great neighborhood school on Saint Paul's East Side.
We
enroll about 480 children in PreKindergarten through Grade 6. Our
students come to us primarily from Saint Paul's Eastside, although some
students do come from the West Side. Altogether, they represent the
beautiful diversity that can be found in our city.
Our teaching
staff is composed of dedicated individuals with a wide variety of
experiences | | Hop on board the Highwood Express! | and ethnic backgrounds. Working together, our teachers,
educational assistants, and building staff teach students to become
more aware of, involved in and prepared for the world around them, and
for their future within that world.
We always welcome visitors,
and we are happy to answer any questions that members of the community
might have. Please feel free to contact the school if you have
questions, comments, or concerns: 651-293-8875.

 | | | | | | Grants & Awards | Highwood Hills has received more than $2 Million in grants in the last
five years. The school received a REA Reading grant in 2001 for $1
Million dollars over three years, and then received working the
Federal Reading First grant which gives the school more than $300,000
each year for three years. These funds are designated to improve
students' reading abilities in grades K-3, with the goal of having all
primary students reading at grade level by the time they leave third
grade. Teachers receive staff development training in the latest
reseach-based teaching methods, in addition to money for buying books
and other resources for their classrooms. Stop by school and visit the
literacy center to see how Highwood Hills has made great strides toward
its goals!
Presently, Highwood received two other grants, CHOICE and Early Reading First
which brings early literacy to our preschool population.
